Them in Video
Have a message to communicate by video? You are not alone. According to YouTube,
72 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute and over 4 billion hours
of video are watched each month.
With so much competition, if you are communicating your business message online,
your video has to grab attention in the first few seconds. No better way to do
that than with metaphors and music, two tools that immediately hook into your
viewer’s emotional and visual right brain.
Box of Crayons is a Canadian coaching company dedicated to helping people and
organizations do great work. One of its values is that people should have fun.
In their video "The Eight Irresistible Principles
of Fun," notice how the metaphors in the beginning and throughout this
creative video connect us instantly to this message.
Not Selling Fun?
No matter what you are selling, there is likely to be a way to hook your viewer
with vivid verbal and visual imagery to set the theme of your message:
Increased productivity? Show a chicken sitting on top of a pyramid of
eggs; an enclosure of hundreds of rabbits; a micro-chip powering the world
Performance? Show the latest popular sports figure winning a race,
making a touchdown, or hitting a home run; a musician, dancer, or artist; a
tightrope walker; a juggler juggling 12 balls
Reduced costs? Show a shrinking dollar; a piggy bank; a dam with a hole
it in being plugged
You get the idea.
Before you can persuade people, you need to get their attention.
In a noisy, busy world, verbal and visual imagery are your strongest "weapons of
fast communication."
Make what you say pay — with metaphors.

Publication Date of New Book in November
Metaphorically Selling is going into
its second printing in November. The expanded book will be called
The Tall Lady With the Iceberg: the power of metaphor to sell, persuade, &
explain anything to anyone and will include the original
text of the book plus 25 Metaphor Minute-type anecdotes.
